 Aminata’s Bio

Hello, my name is Aminata. I am 13 years old and from Tucson, AZ. In my spare time I enjoy hip hop dancing because I like the music. I take classes, but I really like teaching myself how to dance. I turn on music and make up my own dance moves. Sometimes I learn from music videos. My favorite musical artist is Justin Timberlake because he does a lot of hip-hop. He also writes good songs. When I grow up I want to be a pop singer.

HIV first came into my life when I came to America from Africa. My doctor told me I had HIV and I didn’t know what it was at the time. Then I started going to Camp Kindle and they taught me about HIV. HIV makes me feel sad and angry because I feel different from other people. I feel like I am the only person with HIV.

I have been going to camp for 4 years and my favorite part is the lip sync and dance night. I also like the nighttime devotionals because I get to listen to other people talk about their stories. It also lets me open up about HIV and feel like I am not alone.

This is my second year going to Dance Marathon at UCLA. I am excited for EVERYTHING! I want to try to stay up all night and meet new people. I love seeing the Kindle staff and listen to the hip-hop music. I don’t have a favorite dance move because I like everything!

I can’t wait to dance with everyone in February!
