Amanda’s Bio

Hi my name is Amanda and I am 16 years old. I live in Phoenix, AZ. During my free time I like to hang out with my friends and play sports. I used to play basketball and soccer for my middle school, but now I just play with my friends for fun. My friends and I like to hang out at home or at the park. We also watch a lot of movies. I really like comedies. My favorite type of music is country. I really like Darius Rucker because of his voice. I even listen to Hootie and the Blowfish. When I grow up I want to be a nurse or professional photographer. I take a lot of pictures on my phone. I like to take pictures of things because everything is beautiful.

HIV came into my life when I was 8 years old. My mom told me she was infected and I didn’t really know what it meant at the time. I knew it was making her sick, but I didn’t know how huge it was. I thought it was like a cold. I thought she would be sick and then eventually get better. It wasn’t until I was 10 or 11 that I realized HIV would stay with her forever. When I first found out my mom had HIV I felt relieved because there was a reason for her being sick all the time. When I started going to camp I knew a lot about HIV. My mom and I talk about it all the time and she is very open about it.

I started going to Camp Kindle the summer before 6th grade. My favorite part about camp is the wilderness and being with my friends. I wish I could bring a camera to camp because I would take a lot of pictures. I have been in the photography project the past few years.

This will be my first year going to Dance Marathon. I am excited to see the event and go to UCLA. Everyone at camp talks about Dance Marathon so it will be fun to see it in person. I am excited to stay up all night and dancing. I usually get grouchy when I stay up late, but hopefully that won’t happen at Dance Marathon. My favorite dance move is the fist pump.

I wish February was tomorrow! I can’t wait to meet everyone!

Dear dancers,

Thank u so much for supporting camp kindle and dancing for us so that we can attend camp every year. I look forward to it every summer and i don’t know where id be without camp kindle! I’m so excited to be apart of dance marathon this year,it will be my first time. I hear its so much fun seeing everyone and who doesn’t love to dance? (: so i cant wait!
